PV is a great city to explore both on foot and by car. Lots of great little shops, bars, restaurants and beautiful architecture, specially in old town. The thing about staying in or near PV is that it's not just about PV. There is a whole series of small coastal villages north of the city that are easily accessible by local transit that is really inexpensive to use. Just 15 minutes north of the airport is Bucerias, then La Cruz, Punta Mita, Sayulita, and San Pancho. Each have their own vibe and attractions. They all have cobblestone streets. It never gets old exploring this part of Mexico. There is a great expat community in the area and the locals are totally accepting of them because they give back to the community.
